概要

This course covers a fundamental approach to the quantum reaction dynamics from a viewpoint of the atomic collision physics that is a boundary field between physics and chemistry. This course consists with three main parts. In first part (Topic A), general topics of electron scatterings from atoms and molecules will be focused on as well as experimental techniques to measure such the scattering processes. The students will study the quantum treatment of electron scattering phenomena and their several applications including positron scatterings that is an antimatter particle of electron in this part. In second part (Topic B), the students will study charge transfer processes in the collisions of ions with atoms and molecules that correspond to the simple processes of the chemical reactions. In final part of this course (Topic C), basic of chemical reactions will be introduced as the extension of the atomic collisions. This course is based on the Curriculum policy 3 “To acquire the ability to contribute to the creation of substances ranging from atoms and molecules” at Department of Materials and Life Sciences. This course will have lecture-based face-to-face classes. Lecture-slides used in this course will be uploaded on the Moodle. Detailed information on Moodle will be posted on Loyola’s Class bulletin board before the first class.

目標

This course intends to introduce general topics of atomic collision physics , experimental techniques, and their applications as the basic of the quantum reaction dynamics. By the end of the period in this course, the student should be able to understand the physical and chemical phenomena surrounding us from the microscopic viewpoints. This is based on the Diploma Policy 3 at Department of Materials and Life Sciences.

授業外の学習

Many concepts in this course are new to many students. Therefore, it is essential to read carefully for the lecture slides distributed in advance on the Moodle. Quizzes or reaction paper will be given in each lecture to deepen students' understanding of the lecture content. [Preparation] Read carefully lecture materials and research technical terms and keywords in advance using references (70 minutes for each session). [Review] Answer to the reaction paper in that day and/or follow up on the calculations that could not be covered during the lectures (90 min for each session). Work on the quiz on Moodle and read the explanations to double check your knowledge (30 min for each session).

所要時間: 190 min.

教科書

In this course, no specific textbook is fixed because students are expected to study a wide range of subjects on the atomic collisions related to the quantum reaction dynamics. Lecture-slides uploaded on the Moodle will be available for references instead of the specific textbooks.
