Students will be required to write a 'Reaction Paper' in each class. In the reaction paper, a topic in the class is summarized by the students, and engineering exercises with formula learned in the class are conducted. Class attendance is evaluated based on submission of the reaction papers. The 'Midterm Report Assignment' will include a short presentation. Students are free to choose their own presentation topic related to "Impact of Air Transport on Climate". The 'Final Report Assignment' will include a short student presentation. Students are free to choose their own presentation topic related to "Perspectives on the Future of Green Aviation".

概要

授業の概要/Course description (*)必須/Entry Required This course provides an overview of the main issues relating to the environmental impacts of air transport. It explains the central challenge facing policymakers in terms of sustainable development, focusing on the importance of balancing the industry’s economic, social and environmental costs and benefits, both for people living now and for future generations. This course will guide you through fundamental technologies, materials, design and engineering, integration and development policies. Particular emphasis will be placed on current trends and forecasting future developments. Furthermore, the course will introduce Aircraft Systems, Structures and Mechanics of Materials with emphasis on the importance of designing with lightweight Polymer Composite Materials. This course also follows Curriculum Policy 2 (CP2) to acquire the fundamentals of the natural sciences in general, including physics and mathematics through coursework in Science and Technology and to nurture broad capacities to address various science and technology issues. This course also follows Curriculum Policy 3 (CP3) to broadly study the fundamentals of science and technology associated with physics and mechanical engineering and therefore, foster the ability to contribute to the acquisition of new physical values and creation of functions by systematically understanding each discipline. This course also follows Curriculum Policy 4 (CP4) to acquire interdisciplinary abilities to apply and develop what has been learned in real society by using material engineering and aerospace engineering. This is supported by allowing students to select lectures, laboratory classes and seminars from the perspectives of “understanding substances and creating materials and devices” and “manufacturing and system building”. Active learning: This course asks you for engagement in discussions, presentations. Syllabus schedule may vary depending on the situation and progress.

目標

1) To develop a fundamental understanding of Impact of Air Transport to the Environment. 2) To gain basic knowledge of Mechanics of Materials including Polymer Composite Materials from theoretical perspectives. 3) To acquire ability to understand current trends and to forecast future developments in aerospace industry. The objectives of this course are to achieve a broad ability to address science and technology issues, acquired by studying the fundamentals of science and technology, required in Diploma Policy 2 (DP2). In addition, the course objectives aim to develop the ability to contribute to the acquisition of new physical values and the creation of functions, nurtured by systematically studying physics, mechanical engineering and electrical engineering and electronics, required in Diploma Policy 3 (DP3). Moreover, the course objectives aim to develop the ability to contribute to the development of ingenious technologies from the perspectives of “energy creation and use,” “understanding substances and creating materials and devices,” and “manufacturing and creating systems.”, required in Diploma Policy 4 (DP4).

授業外の学習

During the course, students will be expected to: 1) Research, prepare and deliver a short presentation in English (class 5) related to "Impact of Air Transport on Climate". 2) Research, prepare and deliver a short presentation in English (class 14) related to "Perspectives on the Future of Green Aviation".
