In this course, an attendance, a class participation, and a report submission (including a homework submission) are evaluated for each experiment. In addition, a late arrival to experiments and a late submission of reports may lower grades. If students are late for a legitimate reason, the faculty member for each experiment may not allow students to participate in the experiment on that day and may change its experiment to the makeup experiment. On the other hand, if students arrive late without a legitimate reason, the faculty member for each experiment will not allow students to participate in the experiment on that day and evaluate as 0 for this experiment. As a general rule, if there is a legitimate reason for being late, students must send an e-mail to the faculty member for each experiment and the main instructor (Mitsuhisa Ichiyanagi) with a legitimate reason before this experiment starts. If there is no notice to be late, the faculty member will consider it as tardiness without a legitimate reason.

概要

This course provides some experiments using advanced experimental methods and analytical methods in the field of mechanical engineering. The students use the knowledge obtained through the classroom lectures for performing the experiments. The main target of the experiments is to cultivate problem-solving skills for writing the graduation thesis, which corresponds to Curriculum Policy of our department. This course has several subjects those are mechanics of materials, mechanical dynamics, thermal engineering, precision engineering, control engineering, material science, and so forth. An active learning is conducted in the form to do experiments, analyze data and write reports. In addition, this class schedule may be changed depending on the proficiency of the students.

目標

(1) The objective of this course is to master the ability to solve some problems in the mechanical engineering fields by conducting some experiments and writing some reports. (2) This course contributes to learning in the field of mechanical engineering, which corresponds to Diploma Policy of our department.

授業外の学習

Students are required to study the followings for each class (300 minutes in total). Preparation: Students need to read the literature materials carefully before attending the experiment. However, there are some experiments that require no preparation. (30 minutes) Review: Students need to review the literature materials and each experiment they conducted. Students have to resolve their questions that remain after the experiment by checking the literature materials or asking questions to the faculty member for each experiment. (30 minutes) Homework and Reports: Students need to write answers to their homework assignments. In addition, students need to write an experimental report for each experiment. (240 minutes)

  9. Submission of a report including experimental results and discussion in the fields of mechanics of materials.
  10. Experiment of mechanical dynamics (1) Understanding and formulation of contact phenomenon program (Face-to-face experiment)
  11. Experiment of mechanical dynamics (2) How to code program for contact judgment and how to make analysis results (Face-to-face experiment)
  12. Experiment of material science (1) Heat treatment and state diagram of metal material (Face-to-face experiment)
  13. Experiment of material science (2) Heat treatment and microstructure of metal material (Face-to-face experiment)
  14. Submission of two reports including experimental results and discussion in the fields of mechanical dynamics and material science.
