HISTORY OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

概要

The main structure and basic informations will be given by the teacher. However, the class is designed to be interactive, with students preparing the class in order to ask questions, proposer alternate explanations. The first part will given following two stages: 1. the first half will be used for giving the main frame and explaining the characteristics of the history of international relations 2. the second half will reused for oral presentations given by students. Each week, one student will make a short report about a reading related to the class.

目標

The purpose of this class in to help the students to understand the historical background of the current world, with a focus on Eastern Asia. It also aims at helping them to get the minimum historical knowledge to help them in their research topic. History is an essential tool to understand the world. However, it is much more than a tool, since its study gives the temporal deepness that every leader of citizen should include in ones reflection on the world. We will try, in this course, not to limit our study on diplomatic matters, but include every topic that will help us to understand the international relations during the 20th century, the century where occurred of the biggest cataclysms of human history. The Russo-Japanese War, the two world wars, the Chinese Revolution, the Cold War, Decolonization will be the main events that will punctuate this course.

授業外の学習

Students will be required to do readings related to the subject (the choice is free) on the subject and to read the documents uploaded on the noodle (190 mn).
