概要
This course focuses on the construction of gender and sexuality in Asian, Middle Eastern, and African societies within the contexts of family, reproduction, religion, and conflict. We will investigate how gender and sexuality concepts and practices have evolved, and we will explore the structural, socio-cultural, historical, economic, legal, and political factors that contribute to the evolution and transformation of gender and sexuality in society. Additionally, we will incorporate the views of Asian, Middle Eastern, and African feminists on gender and sexuality in the issues covered in the course, critiquing Westernized understandings of gender and sexuality. This is a reading and discussion-intensive class with a student-centered, participatory approach. Small-group and whole-class discussions will be the main learning platforms for students, with lectures given (where appropriate) as a lead-in or follow-up to the reading assignments.
目標
The course aims to cultivate students' critical awareness of gender and sexuality issues in a global context. By exploring these issues across various regions, it seeks to foster a critical analysis of how both local and global contexts shape gender and sexuality concerns. The objective is to assist students in examining gender and sexuality issues from multidimensional perspectives. Throughout the course, students will learn through reading and reflecting on assigned texts, active participation in class discussions, taking on roles as discussion leaders/facilitators, posing questions, and engaging in research
