概要

This course will require students to use Moodle and, if necessary, Zoom. Students who are taking this course must enroll in this course's Moodle site before the first class. ***ABOUT THIS COURSE*** This interdisciplinary course integrates the study of migration and mobility with broader processes of development and social transformation world-wide. It provides an introductory theoretical understanding of human mobility and the role of of international migration in economic and political processes, social change and globalisation. It also gives an overview of the major debates and literature on contemporary migration. The first part of this course introduces students to key frameworks, theories, and research on migration, its causes, consequences, and policy implications. The second part of this course primarily focuses on the intersectionality between migration and other social processes and debates, such as modernisation, gender movements, queer diasporas, and refugees and asylum seekers. This course uses mainly two online tools: Moodle and Zoom. On the Moodle page of this course, students can find the details of the syllabus including key readings and assignments.

目標

To introduce concepts, ideas and approaches to migration studies. Attendance and active class participation are key components of this course, so students are expected to do all the readings before class and come in prepared with questions on each week's readings. On Week 6, students are expected to submit a formative essay (approximate length: 1500 words). On Week 14, students are expected to submit a summative essay (approximate length: 2000-2500 words). For the final project, students are required to conduct their own research projects on course-related topics of their interest. Students present their final projects to their colleagues to receive feedback and comments.
