概要
The overall objective of this course is to have a better understanding of the meaning of “religion” in the age of globalization. The course begins with general discussions on the different roles religion play in the globalized world as it promotes, enhances or resists the globalization process. In the following section, we will focus on the recent global spread of Pentecostalism in the different parts of the world and examine how this popular religious movement is gaining its momentum because of/in spite of globalization.
目標
Students will develop a critical understanding of the nature of religion, particularly related to the ideas and practices of globalization. Students also have opprtunities to imagine the role religion plays in the 21st century.
授業外の学習
1) Read the assigned texts and prepare questions for class discussion (120 minutes). 2) Review the materials from class lecture/discussion and prepare for essay assignments (70 minutes).
