概要

This course consists of two parts: Environmental Biology and Introduction to JavaScript programming. PART 1: Environmental Biology All organisms live in complex and dynamic environment. Environmental responses are critical for survival, and have been shaped through evolution. To understand the biological world around us and establish sustainable development, interdisciplinary approaches are essential. This part introduces basics of environmental responses and molecular evolution with related analysis methods. PART 2: Introduction to Python Web Scraping. In recent years, gathering information from the Web has become essential in any field of research. As research approach, having the ability to automatically collect large amounts of information from the Web using Web scraping methods would be a great advantage. In this lecture, students will learn the basics of web scraping using Python, a mainstream programming language in recent years. The knowledge gained in this lecture will be useful for the master's thesis.

目標

PART 1: Environmental Biology (Lectures 1~7) Students learn how the environment influences the changes in biological condition and vice versa. Students acquire the basic understanding of current environmental issues and the relationships to the living organisms. PART 2: Python Programming (Lectures 8~14)

授業外の学習

PART1: After each class, students are expected to review the class content and explore further (2 hours). Students prepare for the presentation sessions, class 6 and 7 (details will be provided in class). PART2: After each class, students are expected to review the class contents and complete the additional programs (2 hours). They should make a code for scraping web pages of their own interest and upload it on the server at the end of the course (details will be provided in class).
