概要

Physiological psychology is a field in which researchers try to elucidate relationship between the body (including the brain) and the mind using various neuroscientific methods. It is crucial for graduate students in this field to cultivate their own ability of reading and discussing the original articles in neuroscientific journals written in English. In this class we focus on the hippocampus, which is known to play important roles in psychological functions such as memory, learning, and spatial cognition. We hold a “journal club” in which an assigned student each week reads neuroscientific article(s) dealing with structures and/or functions of the hippocampus in advance, reports the research described in the article(s) in the class, and discusses the reported research with other participants. All participants should have already learned physiological psychology in some academic courses, and should speak English in this course.

目標

Each participant will be able to explain the structures and functions of the hippocampus in detail, and will cultivate their own ability of rapid and deep reading of neuroscientific articles written in English. PhD course students should explain the relationship between their own researches and hippocampal functions.

授業外の学習

・Since the assigned student for the next week will let all other participants know the article that will be reported in the next class, all participants are expected to read that article in advance.
