概要

How can language teachers teach vocabulary, grammar, pragmatics, cultural knowledge with an intercultural communication orientation? In this seminar, we will explore the language pedagogy of intercultural communication for graduate students. First, it gives a theoretical foundation and research on intercultural communication and demonstrates how theory can be used in L2 pedagogical practice. It also provides actual instruments for teaching intercultural communicative competence in the L2 classroom (Byram, 1997). Second, it provides relevant research and practical teaching activities for teaching vocabulary, grammar, pragmatics, paralinguistics, nonverbal communication, and cultural knowledge. Third, it explores students’ personal experiences of intercultural communication, focusing on intercultural transitions, identity, and conflict. The seminar will combine lectures, readings, videos, discussion, writing, and presentation. This seminar is designed for graduate students who will teach and research language pedagogy in intercultural communication.

目標

At the end of the course, students will be able to: 1. Understand current theories and research about language education and intercultural communication. 2. Apply language pedagogy of intercultural communication in language class. 3. Assessing intercultural competence in the intercultural journey. 4. Develop academic skills in presentation, writing, critical analysis and research. 5. Design a curriculum plan teaching ICC in secondary education.
