概要

(The course description provided below is tentative and subject to change based on the academic interests of the students participating in this seminar.) Students will acquire the ability to set up research questions based on their own awareness of social issues through critical reading of various academic papers directly and indirectly related to the design for sustainable societies. In parallel with such readings, each student will set his/her own research question and practice collecting and analyzing data to answer the question. Special emphasis will be placed on learning from each other by sharing information about their activities. The contents of the academic papers and the research questions to be set by each student will be decided flexibly, responding to the students' interests to the greatest extent possible. However, students are strongly recommended to keep in mind the meta-level questions of (1) how it is possible to balance the emphasis on long-term time scales with the emphasis on short-term time scales, and (2) how it is possible to balance the emphasis on micro spatial scales with the emphasis on macro spatial scales in the design for the sustainable society.

目標

(1) To be able to search for previous studies relevant to one's own awareness of social issues. (2) To acquire the research methods necessary to answer his/her own research question.

授業外の学習

Students are expected to read research articles and to prepare documents helping explain these articles to the other students.
