概要

Students will study environmental economics. Environmental economics is a field aimed at elucidating the causes of environmental issues using economics theory and exploring effective countermeasures. Specifically, using analytical methods such as microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics, the causes and solutions of environmental issues including climate change, waste problems, ecosystem destruction, transboundary pollution, and depletion of resources are explored. The first few sessions will be used to conduct research in groups. There, students will learn the skills necessary for research activities, such as setting a research topic, reviewing the literature, and preparing a presentation. Each student will then present previous research on a topic of interest or his or her own research, which will be discussed by all participants. A certain level of math skills is required.

目標

The objectives of this course are to acquire the knowledge necessary to understand the papers published in academic journals and to be able to analyze real environmental issues from the viewpoint of economics based on the acquired knowledge.

授業外の学習

Students should thoroughly prepare the presentation materials distributed in advance (200 minutes for each class). Although no time is set, students are expected to take sufficient time to prepare their own presentations.
