概要
The purpose of this course is to develop an understanding of methods for conducting academic research to understand human-nature interaction systems (setting research questions, conducting literature reviews, collecting data, and analyzing and interpreting data). Without specific perspectives on the phenomena of interest, it is impossible to set research questions or collect data. This course argues that researchers must rely on a particular concept or a conceptual framework (i.e., an assembly of concepts) to be able to become aware of how they intend to view the phenomena. The course then presents conceptual frameworks that students who intend to conduct research on the human-nature interaction systems should be aware of. It also introduces the Grounded theory approach as a methodology for constructing their own conceptual framework for cases where no existing frameworks are available.
目標
(1) To get a deeper understanding of what a good research question is. (2) To understand the strengths and weakness of quantitative and qualitative research methods.
