ENVIRONMENTAL ECONOMICS

概要

Lectures on economic approaches to environmental issues will be provided. In this course, an explanation will be given on economic instruments of environmental policy, which is a policy tool to reduce environmental burden by utilizing market mechanisms. After an explanation on market efficiency, market failures due to externalities, internalization of externalities, economic approaches to climate change, waste issues, biodiversity conservation will be covered. A certain level of math skills is required. In addition to lectures, active learning such as group work will be conducted. Students will be asked to submit reaction papers (assignments) and feedback will be provided in classes. The content of this course and the Japanese course "環境経済学(Environmental Economics)" are almost the same, so students are encouraged to take only one of them.

目標

The objective of this course is to learn economic analysis methods for environmental issues so that the causes of actual environmental issues and their countermeasures can be evaluated and analyzed from the viewpoint of economics. In particular, the objective of this course is to understand the characteristics of various policy instruments and to be able to choose appropriate instruments according to the nature of environmental issues.

Students are required to read the references to be given during classes in advance. (About 100 minutes for each class) Students are required to review every class since the classes are provided on the premise that they understand the previous classes. (About 100 minutes for each class)
