概要

This course provides introductory discussions pertaining to bilingual education and bilingualism. The course will be largely discussion-based. For this reason, your active class participation is indispensable. Lectures and discussions will be conducted entirely in English, and students are to do their presentation and write their papers in English as well.

目標

In this course, students will: - gain basic understanding of bilingualism and bilingual education. - using the acquired knowledge, the student will design a study pertaining to bilingualism/bilingual education. - will cultivate English reading, speaking, writing and research skills.

授業外の学習

Students are expected to have finished assigned weekly readings at home prior to class. Students will be responsible for one presentation for which the student will do an additional reading, provide its summary, and provide 2 discussion questions that tie the textbook reading, the extra reading, and issues pertaining to bilingualism/bilingual education. As the final course paper, students will be writing a research proposal that explores aspect(s) in bilingualism/bilingual education.
