The final course grade will be determined on the basis of the following: (1) class attendance and participation (40%) (2) presentations (20%) (3) teaching demonstrations (20%), and (4) research paper proposal (20%).

概要
We will focus on innovative language teaching approaches known as Content-Based Language Teaching/Content and Language Integrated Learning (CBLT/CLIL), task-based language teaching (TBLT), and focus on form (FonF). Class discussion will center on theoretical, empirical, and practical issues. As such, ideas and insights from various perspectives including that of researchers, teachers, and learners, will all be useful. My hope is that through discussion and demonstration in class, you will refine your understanding of the complexity of the issues at hand and develop skills and attitude to explore TEFL from both theoretical and pedagogical perspectives. Students are expected to have basic knowledge of SLA before taking this course.
目標
The purpose of this course is to deepen your understanding of issues in Instructed Second Language Acquisition (SLA) through some class lecture, discussion based on student presentations, and students’ teaching demonstrations.

和泉伸一(2009)『「フォーカス・オン・フォーム」を取り入れた新しい英語教育』大修館書店 This book will give you basic backgrounds and ideas for pedagogical implications of CBLT/CLIL, TBLT, and FonF; as such, it will be read along with other readings and should form part of the background for your presentations and discussions. All other required readings can be found in my Moodle page. *Don't worry if you are unable to read in Japanese. The basic contents are covered in other readings available in English as well.
