概要
Action research is usually defined as "a form of investigation designed for use by teachers to attempt to solve problems and improve professional practices in their own classrooms" (Parsons & Brown, 2002). In this course, we take it to include even a broader set of issues concerning any aspect of language learning and teaching outside as well as inside the classroom, which have immediate practical relevance to one's own context. With the broad scope of the field of Action Research in mind, this course is intended to help students develop the research competence that any language teacher would usefully possess to improve his/her own learning as well as teaching of a foreign language. The students will be asked to gather and analyze the type of data that are relevant to their own interest in their own unique teaching and learning settings. In so doing, they will have a chance to try out a range of research techniques and methods to solve the problems they have identified. The students are asked to write a final paper that reports on the process and the results of their own micro-research project. It is expected that the students will learn how to write a professional academic paper as well during the process of producing a final paper.
目標
By the end of the course, students will be able to: 1) Identify the topic for micro-research project 2) Narrow down the topic into a manageable scope. 3) Formulate useful research questions 4) Collect and analyse relevant data to finding answers to the questions 5) Draw useful implications from the result of analysis 6) Write a research report in a professional format 7) Present and discuss the findings that he/she has made
授業外の学習
1) Find a relevant literature to one's own interest 2) Summarise the findings that have been made in the past to claim the value of one's research. 3) Collect and analyse data 4) Write a research report 5) Give a presentation
