概要
This is a survey course in second language acquisition (SLA) in which we will consider and discuss important SLA theories and empirical research findings. In this course, we will focus mainly on adult second language acquisition, including both naturalistic and instructed SLA. We will also cover various issues and important research findings pertaining to child SLA and child first language acquisition throughout the semester whenever they are deemed relevant. There will be lecture and many discussions on various topics in SLA throughout the course.
目標
Students will deepen their understanding of the complex and intriguing processes of second language acquisition. They are expected to apply the knowledge and insights thus gained to their own learning and teaching of a second language.
授業外の学習
Students are required to do the following outside-class work: (1) read the assigned pages of the reading; (2) write their short reaction to the class content and send it via Moodle after each class, and (3) write several reaction papers on their thoughts about what is discussed in class.
