Learning on this course is assessed with a combination of quizzes on linguistic terms and concepts, an academic essay on the application of linguistic knowledge to actual language teaching, and a set of teaching materials and a lesson plan based on the discussion and ideas in the essay.

概要
This is an introductory but highly demanding course, trying to cover most of the linguistic concepts and terms necessary to teach English vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, and discourse. In order to accomplish this ‘mission impossible’, participants are expected to work on exercises, tasks, and reading assignments diligently and devouringly in class and at home. The course is designed to strike a good balance between theoretical discussion and practical application to help participants develop as ELT (English Language Teaching) professionals.
目標
In completion of this course, participants will be able to • understand how English works systematically, • describe the English language using key linguistic concepts and terms, • apply linguistic knowledge to English language teaching.
授業外の学習
30 minutes for revision, 30 minutes for homework, and 130 minutes for reading and writing based on assigned literature (book chapters, journal articles, etc)
