概要
This advanced class is composed of student’s presentations and discussions, based on the contents of learning materials. The students will have to read the materials, summarize the contents and share their ideas/insights/questions with other students, and discuss the relating and latest issues. The materials are two books and documents related to international development in education, non-formal education, and lifelong learning. Education is understood as one of the strongest tools for the development of society, the economy, and humans. The discourses around education, however, stand separately when we take education as a supportive variant to economic growth or focus only on a single function of education. For example, the provision of education is influenced by political and cultural backgrounds, although the international discourse identifies education as a part of human rights. The perspective of learners is also important to grasp for the better quality of education. In addition to that, this century requires us to keep learning to catch up to a rapidly changing world and to develop ourselves. This class uses the concept of lifelong learning and non-formal education in order to understand the dynamics among school, education, learning, engagement, and development.
目標
The students will be able to - explain what lifelong learning and non-formal education are, - analyze other perspectives in comprehension of education, and - express their own opinion in both verbal and written formats.
授業外の学習
The students will have to prepare for discussions in each class. It needs reading assignments and research based on their own interests (100 min). Reading books and articles are required for class discussions. As you read the textbook, be sure to check the references and, if they are important to the chapter's content, also check their contents. For example, Jarvis' book includes adult education literature and reports from international organizations. Refer to the OPAC of the university library and the website of each international organization, download the files to your own computer, and read through them, after the class discussions (90 min).
