概要

In this course, students will learn International Development Cooperation for achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs), especially for poverty reduction. The focuses are: the general basics, history, key actors, inter-relations, cooperation, coordination, United Nations System (The UN Economic and Social Commissions, Technical Organizations and Programs and Funds), Governments, NGOs, CSOs, Media and Parliamentarians, politics, diplomacy, negotiations, decision-making processes for development policies, programs, funding and ODAs, humanitarian assistance. Special thematic focuses are: population and development, population dynamics (population bonus, low fertility, ageing, migration, child marriage, child labor, etc.), social policies, international health, universal health coverage (UHC), gender equality and women’s empowerment, climate changes, disaster risk reduction and management, human rights based approaches. During the four workshops, students will prepare and present case studies and group discussions will be held to deepen the practical understanding.

目標

In this course, students will : 1) deepen the understanding of international development cooperation, based on the SDGs, focusing on poverty reduction, population and development, population dynamics, migration, health, gender equality, women’s empowerment and human right based approaches; 2) gain the practical knowledge, skills and experiences for the international development cooperation, development and humanitarian assistance, decision making processes, negotiations, diplomacy for international agreements, programs, funding, ODAs, etc.; 3) enhance the understanding of the roles and functions of the UN system (UNS), Governments, NGOs, CSOs, private sector, media parliamentarians, decision-makers, academics, etc.; 4) gain the skills and knowledge to work with the UN System, bilateral development agencies such as JICA, governments, NGOs, foundations and research institutions,international financial institutions; and This course will serve to orient and prepare students for UN career and development career in different organizations and settings.

授業外の学習

Students are required to 1. read assigned and reference materials in web links to be indicated in the classes for active learning and discussions (30 minutes); 2. research and prepare presentations for the workshops on different topics to be indicated in the class (120 minutes); 3. search the websites of development agencies / organizations, United Nation organizations and agencies and development thematic issues to be indicated in the classes for active learning, discussions, reviews and further learning (40 minutes). 4. A total of 190 minutes needed
