INTERNATIONAL FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS AND THE PRIVATE SECTOR

概要

The lecturer is a former representative of the United Nations Development Programme(UNDP) having experience of joint activities with the World Bank for reconstruction of post-conflict countries. The course is designed to offer; 1) understanding of the roles and key principles of the International Financial Institutions (IFIs) and their work in support of private businesses; 2) understanding on how the IFIs operate in accordance with international law; 3) visualizing that a strong and engaged private sector is indispensable to end extreme poverty and boosting shared property, thus SDGs; 4) overall understanding of the mission, operations and corporate culture of the International Finance Corporation (the IFC) as the private-sector arm of the World Bank Group (the WBG), to advance economic development by investing in for-profit and commercial projects for poverty reduction and sustainable development; 5) understanding and mapping of regional development banks, such as the Asian Development Bank (the ADB), the African Development Bank (the AfDB), etc., how they were established and contributed the economic development of their member countries for their market-oriented economies and promotion of private and entrepreneurial initiatives, and; 6) learning from the professionals' experience of project management.

目標

The objective of the course is to enhance participants' capability to think critically and communicate clearly about issues related to IFI's activities in the private sector. The participants will also be able to gain basic knowledge of project management such as PRINCE2 methodology.
