概要
These courses prepare students to use English in specialist professions. Students will be able to learn the specific language used to carry out the duties of that particular profession. Students will also develop their skills in order to conduct the duties in the respective professions in English. この科目群では,専門的な職業分野で使用される英語を学び,仕事を円滑に行うための英語スキルを身につけていきます。 On this introductory course, you will learn the basic skills and knowledge relevant to the tourism industry. You will focus on understanding the professions related to it. Students will improve their confidence and skills in listening and speaking through rich practice as both tourists and professionals in typical travel/tourism situations, including at travel agencies, airports and hotels. Students will also learn about, and express opinions on, important issues relating to tourism in today’s globalized world, including sustainable/ethical tourism, intercultural sensitivity, and English as a global language.
目標
On this course students will carry out various tasks using the four skills (listening, reading, writing and speaking) to develop their general English skills, professional language skills, and communicative confidence. Mini-presentations, role-plays, and creative tasks will be used to assess understanding of the occupational English learned in the course. Students will be able to 1. Understand and use vocabulary and language associated with tourism professions, including travel agents, tour guides, airline staff, and hotel staff. 2. Understand travel itineraries, and create and present their own tour plan. 3. Prepare and present written materials to help travelers. 4. Solve problems that could arise in travel situations. 5. Explore and discuss issues around modern tourism, including sustainability, intercultural sensitivity, and global English.

Based on the content of the syllabus and textbook materials, students will be asked to preview/review the lessons. Homework in connection to the lessons will be given every week. シラバスの内容や教科書資料をもとに,授業の予習・復習をしていただきます。 レッスンに関連した宿題が毎週出されます。 1. Complete exercises to practise and review reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills related to tourism and travel. (20-30 minutes) 2. Regularly review, learn and practise important vocabulary. (20-30 minutes) 3. Prepare drafts/plans (sometimes with a partner or in a group) for assessed role-plays, mini-presentations, and leaflets, and practise presenting those plans. (60+ minutes) 4. Carry out basic research to a) prepare for assessments, and b) help you contribute to in-class discussions. (30-60 minutes)

- Airport. Checking-in and boarding: listening practice, key vocabulary, and role-play. Domestic vs. international travel debate.
- Airport. Customs, immigration, quarantine: listening practice, key vocabulary, role-play, reading and writing practice. Assessment 2 (written guide leaflet) information and preparation.
- Airport. Assessment 2: presentation of leaflets. Peer feedback. Question and Answer session. Hotel. Discussion of accommodation types.
- Hotel. Making a reservation, checking-in, and checking-out: listening practice, key vocabulary, and role-play.
- Hotel. Dealing with complaints: listening practice, key vocabulary, and role-play. Helping guests: listening practice, key vocabulary, and role-play.
- Hotel. Intercultural sensitivity discussion. Assessment 3 preparation: writing role-plays for hotel situations.
