ENGLISH FOR INTERPRETERS

概要

These courses prepare students to use English in specialist professions. Students will be able to learn the specific language used to carry out the duties of that particular profession. Students will also develop their skills in order to conduct the duties in the respective professions. この科目群では,専門的な職業分野で使用される英語を学び,仕事を円滑に行うための英語スキルを身につけていきます。 On this introductory course, you will learn the basic skills and knowledge you need relevant to the field of interpreting. You will focus on practical techniques that are used in processing information, note-taking and verbally interpreting the data, using the CALL system. この入門コースでは,通訳に必要な基本スキルと知識を身につけます。情報を処理し,メモを取り,データの逐語訳を行うための実践的な技術を,CALLシステムを利用しながら学びます。 This course will mainly focus on shadowing, note-taking, and sight translation. このコースでは,主にシャドーイング,ノートテイキング,サイトトランスレーションを練習して行きます。 The fields of news items will be Social affairs, Health, Environment, Trump and America, International affairs and so on. このコースでは,社会問題,健康,環境,アメリカ,国際関係,など様々な分野のニュースを扱います。 We will use You Tube to correct pronunciation. Students will learn about liaisons (connecting sounds) and reductions (disappearing sounds) so that they can pronounce sounds more like native speakers. 授業では,You Tubeを使って発音矯正も行います。学生は,リエゾン(つながる音)やリダクション(消える音)などについて学ぶことで,よりNativeに近い発音が出来るようになります。 トピックの内容は,授業開始後に変更されることがあります。

目標

At the end of this course, students will be able to learn : ・how to interpret news English into appropriate Japanese ・knowledge about news topics ・listening skills for native English ・skill to perform more professional interpreter performance ・how to interpret general Japanese into appropriate English このコースで習得できる事: ・ニュースの英語を適切な日本語に通訳する ・ニュースの話題についての知識 ・ネイティブの英語に対するリスニング力 ・よりプロらしい通訳のパフォーマンスをするスキル ・一般的な日本語を適切な英語に通訳する

授業外の学習

Students need to spend the same amount of time as the lesson itself for self-study (preview and review). ・Students are required to review what they will have learned in the class. ・Students are required to make a short presentation of about five minutes at least once in one semester on the topic they will learn the next week. The presentation and one-page handout are either in Japanese or in English. ・授業で学んだ内容をしっかりと復習する事。 ・翌週に学ぶトピックについて,２名の学生にそれぞれ約５分のプレゼンテーションをしてもらいます。プレゼンテーション担当の学生は,A4サイズで,ハンドアウトを2ページ用意します。(日本語でOK) To pass this course, students are required to take the term-end test conducted on the last day of the term. 単位取得には,今学期最終日に実施される学期末テストを受ける必要があります。
