ENGLISH FOR TOURISM

概要

These courses prepare students to use English in specialist professions. Students will be able to learn the specific language used to carry out the duties of that particular profession. Students will also develop their skills in order to conduct the duties in the respective professions in English. この科目群では,専門的な職業分野で使用される英語を学び,仕事を円滑に行うための英語スキルを身につけていきます。 On this introductory course, you will learn the basic skills and knowledge relevant to the tourism industry. You will focus on understanding the professions related to it. You will also learn the language you need to engage in this area of work through practice using real-life situations. この入門コースでは,観光産業で必要とされる基本スキルと知識を身につけます。まず,この職業に対する理解を深めます。また,現実の状況に対応する練習を通じて,この分野で活躍するために必要な専門用語も学びます。 Today, tourism has became one essential industry along with the development of ICT. Tourism can impact us at many levels and in multiple, and sometimes unexpected, ways. We are overwhelmed by a lot of tourism options, and we easily are at a loss where to go or what to do. In addition, as almost all the travel arrangements can be done a click away, we tend to forget to think about the impact we, the travelers, give to/get from the local communities and vice versa. Therefore, if you are in the tourism industry, it is important to have a clear vision for tourism being aware of its impact. In this course, you will redefine the purpose of tourism and its influence over us through three discussions and find your own vision of tourism. In addition, by working on three practical assignments, you will make your vision a real tourism option.

目標

In addition to expand tourism vocabulary, you will acquire the study skills in English to 1) write a travel guide (describe and explain the tourist spots) 2) plan and promote a tour package 3) engage in a customer conversation 4) state your opinion logically and clearly

授業外の学習

Based on the content of the syllabus and textbook materials, students will be asked to preview/review the lessons. Homework in connection to the lessons will be given every week. シラバスの内容や教科書資料をもとに,授業の予習・復習をしていただきます。 レッスンに関連した宿題が毎週出されます。 You need to read/watch study materials and work on worksheets in advance. Although you have time to work on your assignments in class, you are expected to work on most parts of them at home.
