概要

These courses prepare you to use English in specialist professions. You will be able to learn the specific language used to carry out the duties of that particular profession. You will also develop your skills in order to conduct the duties in the respective professions. この科目群では,専門的な職業分野で使用される英語を学び,仕事を円滑に行うための英語スキルを身につけていきます。 On this introductory course, you will learn the basic skills and knowledge relevant to the field of translations. You will focus on practical techniques that are used in understanding texts, using a dictionary and thesaurus and other on-line resources to successfully translate the text you are given. この入門コースでは,翻訳に必要な基本スキルと知識を身につけます。原文を理解し,辞書や類語辞典,その他オンライン・リソースを用いて,的確に翻訳を行うための実践的な技術を学びます。 In this course, you will learn the basic skills to translate English news texts into appropriate Japanese, and general Japanese into appropriate English. Specific translation techniques will also be introduced. The fields of news items will be Social affairs, Health, Environment, International affairs, Economy, Healthcare and so on. The language of instruction will be both English and Japanese. このコースでは,ニュースで使われる英語を適切な日本語に訳す練習をします。またより一般的な日本語を英語に訳す練習もします。具体的な翻訳の手法も紹介します。社会問題,健康,環境,国内問題,国際関係,経済,など様々な分野のニュースを扱います。授業は英語と日本語の両方で行われます。

目標

At the end of this course, students will be able to learn: ・translation skills from English to Japanese. ・how to translate English news into appropriate Japanese. ・knowledge about news topics. ・to read English newspapers easier. ・translate skills from Japanese to English

授業外の学習

You need to spend the same amount of time as the lesson itself for self-study (preview and review). 予習復習時間として毎週授業時間と同等の時間が必要となります。 ・Students are required to review what they will have learned in the class. ・Students are required to make a short presentation of about five minutes at least once in one semester on the topic they will learn the next week. The presentation and one-page handout are either in Japanese or in English.
