概要
On this course, you will apply the study skills you developed in Academic Communication 1 to study an academic subject or topic. You will be able to deepen your understanding about a topic/subject and further develop your knowledge, language and critical thinking skills. You will develop the critical thinking skills you need to read about academic content critically and be able to discuss it. You will learn to use your critical thinking skills and practice applying those by closely examining a variety of texts on which you will write short summaries or reactions. Through this process, you will also reflect on your own thinking processes and skills. Most in-class work will be based around discussions of the various texts and topics, with input and guidance from the teacher on academic discussion skills. You will also learn how to demonstrate their critical thinking skills in their presentations related to a topic. You will receive input on the critical reading and discussion skills practice of discussions, and peer feedback and feedback from the teacher. You will learn to read academic texts related to the topic of the course effectively. You will be able to learn how to read different types of texts such as academic journal articles, essays, and news articles. You will read for the purpose of understanding academic content in order to be able to participate in a discussion and make a presentation related to your research project. Students will learn, research and teach each other about the issues surrounding media and social media. Students will use the receptive skills developed in semester 1 to identify key points in authentic texts, they will use critical thinking skills to analyse the issues identified and use creative skills to suggest improvements, solutions or new ideas. The emphasis will be on output as students will present, discuss and write essays to express their opinion and show their understanding of the topics discussed.
