概要
On this course, you will apply the study skills you developed in Academic Communication 1 to study an academic subject or topic. You will be able to deepen your understanding about a topic and further develop your knowledge, language and critical thinking skills. On this course, you will develop critical thinking skills to analyse and reflect on current social issues and conflicts in society. You will read about a variety of topics, and will be guided to analyse texts for credibility, ask critical questions to understand the necessary contextual information around such topics, and report on your ideas through written reflections and oral reports. This course will explore content related to media and how current issues are portrayed through a variety of mainstream and alternative media sources. You will be given opportunities to conduct in depth research on the topics introduced in class, develop your ideas through summaries and paragraph writing, and present a final research topic in the form of an individual academic presentation
目標
On this course, you will use the skills you learned in AC1 to listen and read about a particular topic which will be covered in class. You will also be able to talk and write effectively in English about what you have learned. You will be guided to think academically about the topic with a focus on critical thinking. Students will learn the distinction between mainstream and independent media sources and how language can be used to promote narratives in texts. Drawing on this knowledge, students will learn to ask critical questions about texts to assess them for credibility. In addition, this course will provide opportunities to develop research skills to research topics in greater depth, logically organise arguments/ideas and present them through essays and oral reports.
