概要

On this course, you will apply the study skills you developed in Academic Communication 1 to study an academic subject or topic. You will be able to deepen your understanding about a topic and further develop your knowledge, language and critical thinking skills. Students will learn, research and teach each other about the issues surrounding media and social media. Students will use the receptive skills developed in semester 1 to identify key points in authentic texts, they will use critical thinking skills to analyse the issues identified and use creative skills to suggest improvements, solutions or new ideas. The emphasis will be on output as students will present, discuss and write essays to express their opinion and show their understanding of the topics discussed.

目標

On this course, you will use the skills you learned in AC1 to listen and read about a particular topic which will be covered in class. You will also be able to talk and write effectively in English about what you have learned. You will be guided to think academically about the topic with a focus on critical thinking. In particular, you will be encouraged to develop your knowledge and formulate your own ideas on the features and effects of media and social media. Using the writing and discussion skills developed in semester 1, you will express your ideas through an essay and group discussions. You will also develop different presentation skills by researching and planning an academic presentation.

授業外の学習

Based on the content of the syllabus and textbook materials, students will be asked to preview/review the lessons. Homework in connection to the lessons will be given every week. Homework is given regularly to help you review the class contents, and learn how to find materials for your own study. At least 45 minutes for each lesson, each week should be allowed for homework. You will usually be expected to do things like; prepare for the next class by reading or formulating ideas to share with classmates, reflect on the previous class, edit and proofread writing, keep a journal for vocabulary and participate in discussions on Moodle.
