概要
On this course, you will apply the study skills you developed in Academic Communication 1 to study an academic subject or topic. You will be able to deepen your understanding about a topic and further develop your knowledge, language and critical thinking skills. Students will examine how commercial concerns influence global media and culture. They will compare current trends with the past to gain a perspective of social change.
目標
On this course, you will use the skills you learned in AC1 to listen and read about a particular topic which will be covered in class. You will also be able to talk and write effectively in English about what you have learned. You will be guided to think academically about the topic with a focus on critical thinking. During the term, you will learn how to do the following: * explain factors behind the spread of global media * analyze the implications of global media on society and culture * examine how consumer culture affects attitudes and behavior
授業外の学習
Based on the content of the syllabus and textbook materials, students will be asked to preview/review the lessons. Homework in connection to the lessons will be given every week. This will be done through assigned readings, reflection papers, mini-research assignments, group discussions, and presentations.
