概要
On this course, you will apply the study skills you developed in Academic Communication 1 to study an academic subject or topic. You will be able to deepen your understanding about a topic and further develop your knowledge, language and critical thinking skills. This course will explore the topic of cultural diversity around the world. Specifically, we will discuss the concept of cultural iceberg and deep culture, focusing on how cultural beliefs and attitudes affect human behavior. We will also debate hot topics and learn how to adapt to new cultural contexts.
目標
On this course, you will use the skills you learned in AC1 to listen and read about a particular topic which will be covered in class. You will also be able to talk and write effectively in English about what you have learned. You will be guided to think academically about the topic with a focus on critical thinking. You will learn about various aspects of deep culture and reflect on these aspects through observation and essay writing. You will also research information on polarizing topics and practice presenting an argument.
授業外の学習
Based on the content of the syllabus and textbook materials, students will be asked to preview/review the lessons. Homework in connection to the lessons will be given every week. Homework will include but not limited to submitting weekly reflections, conducting an observation outside of class, writing a reflection essay, researching information for a debate, and preparing for a presentation. Homework should take around 45 minutes.
