概要

On this course, you will apply the study skills you developed in Academic Communication 1 to investigate an academic topic. You will be able to deepen your understanding about a topic and further develop your knowledge, communicative language and critical thinking skills. This course is conducted in English. Students will learn to think, and present their thoughts systematically and coherently through discussions, presentations and a survey-based research.

目標

On this course, you will use and expand on the skills you learned in AC1 to listen, read and discuss about particular academic themes which will be covered in class. You will be guided to think academically about topics with a focus on critical thinking. To achieve the objectives above, you will continue to learn to collaborate with your classmates as well as to work autonomously in class work and projects. By the end of the course, students would be able to: - investigate particular topics of interest - think critically through acknowledging opposing views and formulating counterarguments - produce an oral presentation on culture and intercultural communication - learn the step-by-step development of a simple survey research report - apply the fundamentals principles of citation, paraphrase and summary - write a five-paragraph report based on the information researched

授業外の学習

Homework is given regularly to help you review the class contents, and learn how to find materials for your own study. You need to spend the same amount of time as the lesson itself for self-study (preview and review). Students are required to produce two graded reports and two presentations. All assignments will be submitted on Moodle. Learners will also complete a mid-term internet research and plagiarism quiz, and a group survey research presentation.
