概要
On this course, you will apply the study skills you developed in Academic Communication1 to study an academic subject or topic. You will be able to deepen your understanding about a topic and further develop your knowledge, language and critical thinking skills. This intercultural communication class uses cross-cultural concepts such as identity, culture, values, and gender to stimulate discussion and improve students' confidence levels in listening, thinking, and speaking critically. There will be a deliberate focus on encouraging students to think deeply about certain aspects of their own culture by comparing them to other cultures.
目標
On this course, you will use the skills you learned in AC1 to listen and read about a particular topic which will be covered in class. You will also be able to talk and write effectively in English about what you have learned. You will be guided to think academically about the topic with a focus on critical thinking. At the end of this course there will be improvements, particularly in students': 1. conversational logic and fluency skills through group discussions; 2. knowledge of vocabulary and concepts in intercultural communication; 3. ability to reflect on their own thinking and those of classmates; 4. inter-cultural learning and understanding and; 5. appreciation for self and others, especially people from other cultures.
授業外の学習
Homework is given regularly to help you review the class contents, and learn how to find materials for your own study. You need to spend the same amount of time as the lesson itself for self-study (preview and review). The tasks will include summary and analysis writing. In addition, there will be some listening tasks and vocabulary worksheets.
