概要

On this course, you will apply the study skills you developed in Academic Communication1 to study an academic subject or topic. You will be able to deepen your understanding about a topic and further develop your knowledge, language and critical thinking skills. The overall theme of this course is various contemporary topics in the world. You will listen to academic lectures and students discussions about the lectures on themes such as psychology, linguistics, pubic health issue, modern art, robot technology, and etc. You will learn vocabularies in relation to the lecture content, develop your listening comprehension skills and learn techniques to take effecitve notes. You will also conduct a research on the related topics and make both individual and group presentations.

目標

On this course, you will use the skills you learned in AC1 to listen and read about a particular topic which will be covered in class. You will also be able to talk and write effectively in English about what you have learned. You will be guided to think academically about the topic with a focus on critical thinking. By the end of the course, you can - increase your vocabularies - improve your listening comprehension skills - take better notes and get the main points and details of the lecture - use the information from the lecture in both writing and oral presentation - think critically about various topics - participate in the discussion on the related topics

授業外の学習

Based on the content of the syllabus and textbook materials, students will be asked to preview/review the lessons. Homework in connection to the lessons will be given every week. You will be required to study new vocabularies and prepare answers for warm up questions related to the topic of each unit. You will have to try review questions using LMS (Learning Management System) of Pearson, the publisher of the textbook. In addition, you will need to do research on the topics you find interesting and prepare to do presentation on the topic.
