詳細情報
概要
On this course, you will apply the study skills you developed in Academic Communication1 to study an academic subject or topic. You will be able to deepen your understanding about a topic and further develop your knowledge, language and critical thinking skills. This course aims to build on the skills that students have acquired in Academic Communication 1 and to enhance their critical thinking, writing, and speaking skills through close-reading/viewing of films and novels. With a process-oriented approach, this course requires students to actively produce outlines and drafts of speaking and writing tasks as well as feedback on their peers’ works as a community of thinkers and writers.
目標
On this course, you will use the skills you learned in AC1 to listen and read about a particular topic which will be covered in class. You will also be able to talk and write effectively in English about what you have learned. You will be guided to think academically about the topic with a focus on critical thinking. By regularly generating thoughtful analyses and exchanging opinions and feedback with peers and teachers, students will have a broader understanding of interactions between text and context, insights into analytical writing and critical reception, and greater skills at both written and verbal expression and overall thought.
授業外の学習
Based on the content of the syllabus and textbook materials, students will be asked to preview/review the lessons. Homework in connection to the lessons will be given every week. Students will give three presentations on film and literature and write two essays (one home assignment and one in-class exam) and are expected to spend 1-3 hours outside of class on each of these tasks.
