ACADEMIC COMMUNICATION 2 (ELEMENTARY)*

概要

On this course, you will apply the study skills you developed in Academic Communication1 to study an academic subject or topic. You will be able to deepen your understanding about a topic and further develop your knowledge, language and critical thinking skills. このコースではAcademic Communication1 で学んだ学習スキルを使ってアカデミックな科目,或はトピックについて学びます。トピックについての知識と言葉とクリティカル・シンキングスキルをさらに伸ばしていきます。 On this course, you will learn about and discuss various social and environmental issues in Japan and abroad connecting to the Sustainable Development Goals. By reading articles and sharing your knowledge and ideas with your classmates, you will gain some new knowledge about today’s global issues, discuss them making connections to your life experience, and further develop your language, study and critical thinking skills. You will also conduct research on the topics brought up in class and give presentations.

目標

On this course, you will use the skills you learned in AC1 to listen and read about a particular topic which will be covered in class. You will also be able to talk and write effectively in English about what you have learned. You will be guided to think academically about the topic with a focus on critical thinking. このコースではAC1で学んだスキルを使って,授業で扱うトピックについて話を聞き,記事などを読みます。こうして学習したことについて効果的に話し,またエッセイにまとめます。また扱われるトピックについて学術的に,かつ批判的に考える技術も学びます。 During the course, you will be able to 1) further develop your English skills and critical thinking skills, 2) build your knowledge about global issues discussed in class, 3) conduct research and give simple yet effective academic presentations in English.

授業外の学習

Based on the content of the syllabus and textbook materials, students will be asked to preview/review the lessons. Homework in connection to the lessons will be given every week. シラバスの内容や教科書資料をもとに,授業の予習・復習をしていただきます。 レッスンに関連した宿題が毎週出されます。 You will be expected to: 1) review vocabulary and prepare for quizzes, 2) read articles/watch video clips, take notes and prepare for in-class discussions, 3) do weekly listening practice, 4) complete writing assignments, 5) conduct research and prepare for presentations.
