ACADEMIC COMMUNICATION 2 (ELEMENTARY)*

概要

On this course, you will apply the study skills you developed in Academic Communication1 to study an academic subject or topic. You will be able to deepen your understanding about a topic and further develop your knowledge, language and critical thinking skills. このコースではAcademic Communication1 で学んだ学習スキルを使ってアカデミックな科目,或はトピックについて学びます。トピックについての知識と言葉とクリティカル・シンキングスキルをさらに伸ばしていきます。 On this course you will learn about World Heritage. Some sites have certain kinds of troubles. Some countries where those sites are located may also have problems. You will be introduced to 15 sites and consider the issues related to them. You will choose a site, conduct research, find problems the site has, critically think about them, and suggest a solution. This research will be presented before your peers. この授業では,世界遺産を取り上げます。個々の遺産が,問題を抱えている場合も少なくありません。また,その遺産が位置する地域・国などが抱える問題もあるでしょう。授業では,15の世界遺産が紹介され,個々の問題について考えます。受講者は,世界遺産をひとつ選び,それについて調査し,問題点や意義について批評的に考察,その成果を発表します。

目標

On this course, you will use the skills you learned in AC1 to listen and read about a particular topic which will be covered in class. You will also be able to talk and write effectively in English about what you have learned. You will be guided to think academically about the topic with a focus on critical thinking. このコースではAC1で学んだスキルを使って,授業で扱うトピックについて話を聞き,記事などを読みます。こうして学習したことについて効果的に話し,またエッセイにまとめます。また扱われるトピックについて学術的に,かつ批判的に考える技術も学びます。 You will be able to consider things critically, by thinking about nature, environment, culture, etc. through World Heritage sites. Such skills for thinking you will acquire are necessary when you conduct research into your own academic topics. Through your own research on a World Heritage site, you will be able to conduct academic research and give a presentation. You will also improve your English skills by watching DVD clips on World Heritage sites, through having discussions on them and by writing the manuscript for the presentation. 世界遺産を通じて,自然・環境・文化などについて考察することにより,批評的に物事を捉えられるようにします。こうした思考力は,自分自身の専門領域の研究にも必要なものです。 世界遺産を調べることを通じて,アカデミックなリサーチを行い,研究発表をできるようにします。 また,世界遺産関連のDVDの視聴,ディスカッションや発表原稿の執筆を通じて,英語力そのものを向上させます。

授業外の学習

Based on the content of the syllabus and textbook materials, students will be asked to preview/review the lessons. Homework in connection to the lessons will be given every week. シラバスの内容や教科書資料をもとに,授業の予習・復習をしていただきます。 レッスンに関連した宿題が毎週出されます。 (1) Watch DVD beforehand, so that you can actively participate in class activities. (10 minutes) (2) Review what you have learnt in class. (10 minutes) (3) Read a graded reader and write a book report about it. (10 minutes) (4) Prepare for the presentation. (15 minutes) (1) 毎回事前にテキストの範囲を学習すること。(10分) (2) 授業後は学んだ内容を整理すること。(10分) (3) グレーデッド・リーダーを読み,ブック・レポートを書くこと。(10分) (4) プレゼンテーションの準備をすること。(15分)
