ACADEMIC COMMUNICATION 2 (ELEMENTARY)*

概要

On this course, you will apply the study skills you developed in Academic Communication1 to study an academic subject or topic. You will be able to deepen your understanding about a topic and further develop your knowledge, language and critical thinking skills. このコースではAcademic Communication1 で学んだ学習スキルを使ってアカデミックな科目,或はトピックについて学びます。トピックについての知識と言葉とクリティカル・シンキングスキルをさらに伸ばしていきます。 This course will provide opportunities not only to develop academic English skills, but also to learn about and discuss selected topics from intercultural perspective. Half of the topics will be provided by the instructor. Additionally, students will choose topics and articles related to intercultural themes that they find interesting, and facilitate class discussions for the class. These topics will be explored through their connections and exposures in daily life to raise intercultural awareness in the context of modern Japan.

目標

On this course, you will use the skills you learned in AC1 to listen and read about a particular topic which will be covered in class. You will also be able to talk and write effectively in English about what you have learned. You will be guided to think academically about the topic with a focus on critical thinking. このコースではAC1で学んだスキルを使って,授業で扱うトピックについて話を聞き,記事などを読みます。こうして学習したことについて効果的に話し,またエッセイにまとめます。また扱われるトピックについて学術的に,かつ批判的に考える技術も学びます。 This course aims to: - increase curiosity and knowledge of the selected topics, - explore language and cultural diversity by reflecting on the interactions with yourself and those around you, - expand vocabulary related to the topics covered in class, - develop reading and listening skills regarding the topics through written and audio materials and - examine and present the topics from the intercultural perspective logically.

授業外の学習

Based on the content of the syllabus and textbook materials, students will be asked to preview/review the lessons. Homework in connection to the lessons will be given every week. シラバスの内容や教科書資料をもとに,授業の予習・復習をしていただきます。 レッスンに関連した宿題が毎週出されます。 Homework is given regularly to help you comprehend the class contents effectively. It will include: (1) Writing reflective papers, (2) Preparing presentations (3) Engaging in research.
