概要

This course explores the origin, characteristics, strengths and weaknesses, and potential impacts of multinational corporations. It examines the techniques used to regulate multinational corporations at the national, regional, multilateral, and global levels. Discussion and debate is a crucial part of the seminar and students will be called on to present their opinions and engage constructively with others.

目標

Students will come to understand the fundamental principles and features that distinguish multinational corporations and their regulation, and engage critically with potential benefits and drawbacks of different forms of regulation, including the effects of corporate self-regulation. Attention will also be paid to international investment law. Students will develop their skills in critical thinking, debate and the analysis of complex arguments of law and (environmental, social, labour, and economic) policy.

授業外の学習

Students must come to class having thoroughly read and evaluated any assigned materials (typically requiring around 2-3 hours on average), and considered in advance some thematic questions to be explored in class. Occasionally students will be required to give presentations in class, prepared in advance, in response to assigned readings.
