INTERNATIONAL POLITICAL ECONOMY

概要

In the era of economic globalization, virtually all economic issues possess an international dimension. However, unlike the management of domestic economies, there exists no supranational authority capable of effectively coordinating and regulating the world economy. What challenges confront the global economy? How have nations (and other entities) addressed international economic issues? This course delves into these inquiries by exploring the history and contemporary issues of International Political Economy (IPE). In addition to traditional IPE questions outlined above, we will scrutinize the repercussions of escalating tensions between the world's two largest economies, the US and China, on the future trajectory of the global economy. Topics include trade liberalization and protectionism, international investments, global finance management, economic development, and the nexus between economic policies and national security. While primarily lecture-based, students will be expected to deliver presentations in class on topics pertinent to international political economy once during the semester. Further details will be provided following the determination of class size.

目標

Students have a basic understanding of issues and theoretical concepts concerning international political economy. Students are able to read about and discuss issues related to international relations in English.

授業外の学習

Students do readings before class and prepare for presentations on current issues related to international political economy. They are also expected to follow news stories on global politics and economy. Questions and comments on the course can be submitted by email.
