概要
This seminar deals with party politics since the 1990s, especially focusing on Abe -Suga - Kishida administrations. It raises the following questions: Why does the LDP hold power so long? What alternatives do opposition parties present? Why are only a few women elected? Do Japanese voters support constitutional revision? How does Japan handle war memories? What is Abe's legacy? How do Japanese youths see and participate in politics?
目標
Through readings, tutorials, and discussions, students shall deepen their understanding of Japanese politics and widen their perspectives so that each will develop a well-thought-out opinion.
授業外の学習
Students are required to do all the assigned readings and come to all seminar sessions ready to participate actively in the discussions. Designated students make a brief introduction of the weekly readings. To stimulate discussions, students might be required to conduct supplementary research related to the weekly topics.
