BACHELOR'S THESIS

概要

In this class, students will be guided through the process of structuring and writing their final thesis. Students are expected to consult early on with their prospective thesis supervisor to decide the research topic, research existing literature and theory, and discuss methodological approaches. Under the guidance of their thesis supervisor, students will carry out their own survey and write their thesis presenting and interpreting these empirical results. Remark: This course is meant for students who intend to graduate in March. Other students who register for this class will not be able to receive credits.

目標

In this class, students will learn the following steps necessary for the composition of an academic thesis: - Decide a research topic and research question - Write a literature review presenting previous research in the respective field - Identify approaches of sociological theory which can be utilized to investigate the question at hand. - Select a methodological approach to empirically investigate the research question. - Discuss and interpret the empirical results. - Re-embed the results into the respective societal context.

授業外の学習

In preparation of their BA thesis, students work under the guidance of their thesis supervisor. After each consultation, students are expected to complete the tasks set by their thesis supervisor by the indicated deadline. Review of previous research literature and data collection are mainly to be carried out during the semester break prior to this class. Therefore, if you intend to write a BA thesis, please consult with your prospective thesis supervisor as early as possible.
