概要
This course provides an introduction to quantitative research methods. After giving a short overview of different research approaches, I will walk you through the different steps of planning and conducting quantitative survey research. This includes an understanding of basic concepts of quantitative research, survey formats and sampling procedures, the development of survey questions, and the preparation of data for analysis. In the later part of the semester, I will introduce you to basic statistical procedures of data analysis using actual data examples.
目標
This class will give you a fundamental understanding of quantitative research methods. It will enable you to better evaluate and interpret quantitative research which you encounter in everyday life as well as in academic publications. The class also provides you with important tools for your individual research projects in the future.
授業外の学習
You should expect about 3 hours preparation per week for the weekly readings and short statistical exercises (in the later part of the semester). There will be two quizzes to test your understanding of the class content. In the later part of the semester we will work with actual data examples and you will have to hand in short weekly assignments.
