概要

This class uses a structure that mirrors how Psychology is taught in many university courses in other countries. All classes on various subjects/issues in psychology are taught in English. In this class, students learn how to use previously memorized (Seminar in Psychology 1A, 1B, & 2A) psychology terminology (speaking & writing) in English to create sentences during discussion sessions on specific topics. Students work in small groups to prepare a key topic for each class, and discussions and presentations will be conducted during class. Also, write a report in English about the presentation in small groups. Assignments are given weekly using the keywords in the syllabus according to the weekly topic of each planned class.

目標

Classes throughout are a combination of lectures and group discussion segments. The course is in English, but the contents will be adjusted according to the student's level. Students will gain experience designing, executing, and reporting on weekly topics orally and in writing. The other goal is to improve students' ability to discuss and communicate opinions and gain confidence in doing this entirely in English. The syllabus includes critical topics in psychology - cognitive issues, including language, emotion, memory, and perception; individual differences - intelligence, personality, and gender; social psychology; mental health and psychological disorders; finally sleep.

授業外の学習

In small groups, each member must participate in planning and preparing a section of the text in English as part of a PowerPoint presentation for the next class (groups must present 15-20 mins. on a selected topic during the class). Each student also submits a personal (final) report about their favorite subject after the seminar. Length of time for work expected outside per class: reading related sources etc. (60min.) preparation of PowerPoint presentation (60min.), after the class review of comments and discussion notes during the class (30 min.), writing a short report section as part of the final report at thge end of the semester (40 min.).
