概要

This is one of Sophia Program of Sustainable Futures (SPSF) classes. In order to contribute to sustainable futures, global media has responsibilities to provide readers and audience around the world with accurate, balanced and diverse information about global issues. At the same time, readers and audience are expected to understand the function of digital information ecosystem and to critically evaluate the information that they consume. In this context, the course examines the challenges and opportunities that global media (news organizations) faces in the digital age, and explores ways to navigate through the chaotic world. During classes, students are expected to compare diverse styles of reporting in covering global issues and conflicts, present their findings, and discuss different perspectives and analysis. The class schedule is subject to change depending on the progress.

目標

By learning about global media, this course aims to equip students with knowledge needed to become informed global citizens who will tackle the issues and problems facing the next generation. 1. Understand the basics of global media landscape and information ecosystem. 2. Understand the responsibilities of media for sustainable futures. 3. Understand challenges and opportunities facing global media. 4. Learn to use critical thinking to discuss and analyze news reports by different media outlets.

授業外の学習

After each class, students are expected to do the following study - Read the class material and review the content (30 minutes) - Post a reaction paper on Moodle (20 minutes) - Read the assigned papers/articles (80 minutes) - Work on an assignment related to the readings and submit it to Moodle (60 minutes)
