Students are expected to read the reference materials for the next class. English and Japanese will be used bilingually in the class. Students can write their term papers either in English or Japanese.

概要
Students will review prior research based on various approaches, including sociological studies on globalization, media, and cultural studies mainly focused on East Asian Media and popular cultures. This class will proceed in a workshop format, with students presenting a summary of each week's reading assignments and participating in the discussion. The topics covered will include, but not necessarily be limited to, the following in the schedule section.
目標
In this course, students will examine the current situations, the socio-historical and political meanings, and the impacts of transnational media and popular culture, focusing on East Asia. Based on reviews of prior research, students will acquire theoretical and methodological knowledge about the relationship between media, society, and culture. In addition, students will improve their research ability required to write an academic essay on the topic.
