概要

This is one of the Sophia Program for Sustainable Futures (SPSF) classes. Whether we like it or not, media, whether it be the traditional mass media or social media, has strong effect on our society and its futures. This class covers the fundamental concepts and theories related to journalism and media communication that enable us to understand the different ways the media is affecting our society, both positively and negatively. During each class, students are expected to ask questions and discuss using the concepts and theories introduced. After each class, students will be expected to answer a quiz and write a reaction paper.

目標

1. Understand the fundamental concepts and theories related to journalism and media communication. 2. Understand the history of the field. 3. Learn to use theories and concepts to discuss and analyze news reports.

授業外の学習

1. Students are required to read assigned readings in advance and prepare questions and comments for discussion. 2. Answer a quiz and write a reaction paper.
