Students will complete discussion tasks in the Online Forums for each class (when there is no other assignment such as Mid-semester test or report). These forums form the bulk of the work for class. Students must post their own answer and reply to at least five other students in order for the forum to be marked as complete (a green tick will indicate completion on the Moodle).

詳細情報

概要

This class focuses on the effects of information and communication technology on language use, with special emphasis on digital culture. It is designed to be of interest to students learning about media, language or digital humanities. During the course, we will look at topics of importance to the way technology is influencing language. Special attention is given to the cultural, social, political and economic principles of language use, as the focus of the course is very much on the individual learner within the context of a global society.

目標

During this course, you will learn about some of the most important concepts that are at the centre of digital culture and language use. You will be required to reflect on your own learning experiences regularly, and these will form the basis of your final assessments. Ultimately, the objectives of this course are to share insights from the research on digital culture and language that will understand the influence of technology on communication and language.

授業外の学習

Each week students should prepare for the class by downloading and reading the handouts before class, and by doing their own research in order to maximise class time. Near the end of the semester, students will work in focus groups towards assignments that demonstrate their knowledge of the course content, and show that they have met the course aims.
