概要
In this course we will look at some of the incredible range in the use of poetry in children's literature, from picturebooks to poems in novels, to stand-alone poems and also including the poem novel. We will look at how poetry for children often differs from poetry for adults. The class will based on a lot of experience of poetry and class members will be expected to read, recite, and write about poems.
目標
To understand how poetry in used in children's literature. To understand the importance of poetry in children's literature. To develop the critical and analytical tools necessary to talk and write about poetry. To experience, and sometimes learn, large amounts of poetry.

- Techniques and analysis. Nursery rhymes.
- Traditional (Lear, Old Possums, Twinkle, Milne, Blake)
- Multi-modality in children's poems. The role of pictures, video and music.
- Poetry in picturebooks.
- Funny Lady.
- Novels with poems, (Carroll, Milne, Hobbit, Dahl, HP)
- Stand alone poems/books, Spike Milligan, Michael Rosen, Shel Silverstein
- Poem novels,
- Nonsense
- School: famous poems; Ozymandius, The Raven, Do Not Go Gentle Into the Night, Invictus, The Road Less Travelled, Because I Could Not Stop For Death, Hiawatha, & co.
- Learning and brain.
- Poetry picturebooks.
- Sung poetry for children.
