概要

This class is a continuation of the spring term Writing Workshop class. Class activity will continue to center on how to prepare, write and present essays. However, in this term the focus will shift to the construction of longer research papers. Students will make two research papers during the term and work on one revision of a spring assignment.

目標

Students will continue to polish essay construction skills. Students will also learn basic research paper construction. Students will also learn documentation methods, according to the Modern Language Association Handbook.

授業外の学習

Students will submit a revision of their final spring essay. Students will submit various assignments aimed at promoting research and documentation methods. These assignments will focus on citation skills, Works Cited construction and paraphrasing. These assignments will take place over the first several weeks of class and require approximately one hour of outside classwork each, although that may vary per student. Students will take one short multiple choice quiz on the life of Edgar Allan Poe. The quiz will have ten questions and last approximately five minutes. The basis for the quiz will be a presentation by the instructor the week prior. Students must take good notes from that presentation. Students will create TWO research papers. The first will be a model, worked on in class and submitted in revised form a second time.. The second will be the students' own free work and will have no revision. Both papers will be based on literature texts. Both will be 2000 words in length or longer. Both will require library and online research. Time required to complete each assignment will vary according to the student. As basis for the first paper, students must read Edgar Allan Poe's short story, "The Cask of Amontillado," which is approximately four pages long. The text and discussion sheets will be provided on Moodle. Students will also have three out of class "extra" writing assignments, not requiring revisions. The schedule will be distributed in class and adjusted when necessary. All three assignment will be based on writings by Edgar Allan Poe. English copies of all three will be provided on Moodle. Students must read these works, write their personal reaction and post their reactions on Moodle. They must also review feedback to their reactions sent by the instructor. Reading and writing time will vary according to the student. Each student is to write 600 words for credit on each assignment. Posting deadlines may change according to the class pace.

所要時間: 190 minutes per week. But this will vary per week.
